3 Must Try DIY Natural Cleaning Recipes

Whenever I go to the store to buy cleaning products, I feel so overwhelmed with all the options I’m presented with. I’m always looking for the most affordable products that work well and get the job done. However, the older I get the more I realize that I should also be looking out for cleaning products that are chemically safe to use. According to the American Lung Association, even though many cleaning products are used to clean and protect our homes, they actually contain a lot of harmful chemicals. Even the ones labeled “green” or “natural.” Because of that, it’s been super difficult to determine which products are safe to use versus products with high chemical levels.

Because of this, I’ve opted to stop using so many store bought cleaning products and began researching clean, natural, and affordable DIY cleaning recipes. This journey is ever-growing, but so far I’ve found 3 DIY cleaning recipes that I think work better than store bought products. The best part, they’re SUPER affordable and most likely items you already have in your closet.

So if you’re ready to start your journey so that you can live in a clean and natural environment without breaking your bank keep on reading!

3 Ingredient Mopping Recipe

As I write this section I can still hear my mom telling me and my siblings to “make sure to mop the floor three times” and if the floor still felt grimy or sticky she would make us repeat the process. We were taught how to mop “Cinderella-style” meaning on all fours using a rag and bucket filled with the mop solution. I never questioned why we didn’t use an actual mop or even the famous Swiffer WetJet floor mop. I think this was due to my delusional self thinking I was like Cinderella (my favorite princess) but in reality, I know I didn’t.

Overtime, we switched to a Swiffer WetJet mop and as excited as I was to not mop the floor on all fours I HATED the mopping solution. It just made the floor so sticky! To combat this, at the end of the mop, we mop the floor once with our natural solution.

This natural 3 ingredient mopping recipe is so easy you’ll probably be mopping your house every day from now on and I’m so glad to share it with you! This is my all-time favorite natural mop solution that can get rid of oil, dirt, and grime. It keeps my floor looking matte, and shiny (oil-free), feels clean on the feet, and makes my home smell fresh overall!

You’ll Need:

  • O-Cedar Rinse Clean Mop (any mop will work)

  • Hot Water

  • Dawn Soap

  • White Distilled Vinegar

Instructions:

Using any mop bucket, pour in the white distilled vinegar and Dawn soap. Add the hot water into this mix until it fills your mop bucket as desired. Using your mop, combine these ingredients together until suds form (it won’t be super soap). Once the mixture is complete, begin mopping!

For extra clean floors, I like to use my O-Cedar Rinse Clean Mop as it allows me to use clean water to mop my house instead of reusing the dirty water collected in the bucket. I also like to mop 3 times around my house. The first round is to remove the first layer of grime while the second and third round ensures that all the grime has been removed from the floors.

4-Ingredient DIY Scum Spray

Whenever I clean my bathrooms, I always get a big whiff of the cleaning product I used and I’m not talking about a pleasant whiff. I’m talking about that stinging whiff that results from the chemicals in that product. To avoid this, I like to use this natural 4-ingredient DIY scum spray which I have found to work so much better than store bought cleaning products!

You’ll Need:

1 ⅔ cup of Baking Soda

½ cup of Dawn Soap

½ cup of Hot water

2 Tablespoons of Warm Vinegar

Instructions:

In a cleaning bowl or bucket, combine the baking soda, Dawn dish soap, and hot water. Then, microwave the vinegar until warm and add it into the same bowl and combine these ingredients well. When the mixture has been combined, it will feel similar to a wet paste in which you can put it on your sink, bathtub, and in the toilet to clean.

The mixture can be added to a spray bottle. However, I found it easier to leave it in the cleaning bowl and apply it to the bathroom surfaces as stated above. This is by far my favorite DIY bathroom cleaner that kept my bathroom SUPER shiny, scum-free, and squeaky clean!

3-Ingredient DIY Oven Cleaner

Is your oven looking greasy with burned scraps of food? Or does it smell bad when you cook in it? If so, look no further as I tell you my favorite 3-ingredient DIY recipe to clean your oven.

You’ll Need:

  • Baking Soda

  • Water

  • White Distilled Vinegar

  • Rubber Gloves

  • Spray bottle

  • Silicone-wide spatula

  • 2 Towels

Steps:

Make sure your oven isn’t hot. In a bowl, mix together the baking soda and water until it forms a paste. Wearing rubber gloves on both hands, pick up some of the paste to spread the inside of the oven and oven door making sure to cover all surfaces. Once this is complete, allow this to sit for 24 hours. The following day, the majority of the paste would be dry. Using the silicone-wide spatula, scrape the inside of the oven and oven door to get rid of the paste. Once most of the paste is gone, use a damp towel to get rid of the paste. To remove the excess paste in the oven, pour the vinegar into a spray bottle and spray the vinegar inside the oven and oven door. Finally, using a clean and dry  towel, wipe the inside of the oven and oven door.

Since using this recipe, not only does my oven look clean and glossy on a budget but it doesn’t emit a nasty odor throughout my home and into my food.

That’s it! Super simple and affordable right? If you’re looking for new natural DIY cleaning recipes, I urge you to try these out.  If you’re ready to elevate the smell and cleanliness of your home, subscribe to my email list to get free cleaning printables!
